SET Conference
How many times have you been asked "What are you going to do when you graduate/grow up?"
Whether you've known since you were five or you still have no idea, the SET (Science, Engineering and Technology) Conference is a fun day that will show you that there is more to science than medicine and more to engineering than bridge building. You might find out that a career in science looks as awesome as you thought it might!
This full-day conference (with lunch included) is open to all Grade 10 - 12 high school girls in Alberta who are interested in learning more about careers in science, engineering and technology.
You will also get a chance to find the answers to questions such as:
- What is University really like?
- I think science is really interesting, but what kind of job could I get?
- If I become an engineer can I still have a life? Can I still have kids?
- I want to do something that will make a difference, but I'm not sure what.
- I've never been in a lab, how do I know if I'll like it?
- What is University really like?
There is also a Parent and Guardian Information Fair
Held during the day of the conference, this session provides a great opportunity for parents and guardians to meet with Science and Engineering Faculty representatives to discuss the University of Alberta, so please be sure to bring along your questions!
Open to all young women in Grades 10-12
Held in Late November or Early December
During this one experience in the sciences, you will have the chance to:
-
Participate in exciting lab demonstrations and hands-on lab activities
-
Learn how unpredictable life in the lab can be and how what you discover can be applied to the 'real' world.
-
Meet SET participants from other schools who are also interested in science and engineering.
-
Talk with women in SET careers about how they got to where they are today and how they can be successful and still have a social life.
-
Spend the day on campus and talk with university student volunteers and grad students about what life on campus is really like.
-
Learn about future opportunities with WISEST ..... and more.
Information on this day is sent to all science high school teachers in North and Central Alberta each year. Contact your science teacher for more information or check out the WISEST website.
